Touch DJ

In 2009, I have designed and produced the world's first mobile DJ app, and it has been a tremendous success, with more than 3 millions of users around the globe, and multiple Apple featurings.

The major technical shortcoming of the platform was (and still is) the lack of the second audio output, essential for proper DJ activities (cueing the "next" track).

I solved this by taking a completely visual approach: two track waveforms were displayed along to each other. The users could identify the bassdrum peaks (beats) and align the tracks based on that information, using onscreen buttons and multitouch jestures. There have also been filters, effects, scratching, and so many other things to tinker and have fun with.

Touch DJ had three versions: 1, 2 and Evolution. As it developed, it got a complete redesign, an iPad version, the ability to detect beats, mix songs automatically, and load tracks right from the iTunes media library.

I have sold Touch DJ Evolution to zCage in 2014 as a part of the Amidio sellout deal, because I wanted to shift to games production and had no time to support this development. Some part of me still regrets this decision.
