JR Hexatone Pro

This is truly a unique beat and sound sequencing tool, somewhat inspired by the cellular automata algorhithms.

It was promoted by Jordan Rudess, one of the world's most famous and talented keyboardists, known for his performance with Dream Theater.

There are 6 sound slots in the very center of the screen, and when the Play button is pressed, they start to travel towards the outer sides of the screen, obeying rules that are placed by the user inside the hexagonal cells.

The rules can be of different nature - block or free the way to the further cells, repeat, slice, glitch, travel back, change travelling speed and so on.

As a result, an immense range of sonic patterns can be achieved. The randomness of the loops can be controlled so it can be either totally chaotic, with new "glitch"-like effects with every loop restart, or controlled.

In any case, this is one of my favorite creations. On a tiny screen, using only 6 sounds, a whole universe of sounds can be generated. A set of 4 Hexatones can be used to produce astonishingly complex and evolving music piece.

I would certainly come back to this development one day.
